A new episode of “A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs” is now up. This one looks at “That’s All Right, Mama” by Elvis Presley, and features acne, bear cats, a phone call to Castro, and a badly-flawed plan to end racism forever.

For quite some time, I’ve been wanting to read Ray Connolly’s “Being Elvis: A Lonely Life”. Somehow, I find its melancholic title appealing and it’s a considerably more compact book than the combined 1300-page biographies by Peter Guralnick. RC’s book also got good reviews, see for example https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/30231787-being-elvis for enviably positive reader reactions. — Re Elvis’ dermatological problems on his neck: Ah, so his love for turtlenecks may have also had simple pragmatic reasons. Anyway, some of my favorite Elvis photos are those with turtlenecks. Fire up your search engine of choice if you’re interested in some really nice Elvis & turtleneck combos!
