I’m leaving things as they are now, because several people said they’d prefer to be paying monthly rather than by-post, but Patreon have now backed down and said, and I quote, “We messed up. We’re sorry, and we’re not rolling out the fees change.”
Patreon cocked up in a big way, and I have lost income over this because of changing to the monthly payments (and like I say, I’m not going to change them back, because so many people have said they prefer to pay by the month), but that blog post is an example of a company reacting well to having made a mistake, and they’re doing the right thing now.
I’m still going to look at diversifying my crowdfunding, but between that and the Alabama Senate result last night (Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, Nigel Farage, your boy took one hell of a beating!), I think that’s a pretty good day.
I’m sleep-deprived now, but tomorrow I think I’ll do a quick link roundup of people who deserve the support of anyone who’s now looking to move onto (or back to) Patreon, along with my next proper post.
This is as good an apology as I can imagine making. “We got this wrong. We’re sorry. We’re reversing it. We’re revising the process so we’re less likely to make mistakes like this again. We’ve understood what we did wrong, and what we misunderstood about you and your businesses. We don’t expect you to trust us straightaway, but we’re going to try to earn it back over time”.
Compare this to the terrible apologies from the other Jack at Twitter.
Indeed. They’ve got that exactly right.
And now Amendment 7 to the Brexit bill has passed. Looks like we’re getting all of 2017’s good news in a single day…
I completely understand if you don’t want to do this, but I’ve got to join in the hustle…I have a nascent Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/user?u=404623 and I’d really appreciate the boost. There’s not much there yet but in the new year there’s going to be several comics in the archive and new 8-to-24 page comics for $2 subscribers and above every 3 months (and in fact I’m already leaning towards putting them up more often). Anyway, just throwing it out there as a possibility if you’re going to be linking, totally fine if this is too crass a plea. Thanks!
Not too crass at all. I’m not doing the roundup today as planned, because of other stuff that ate all my spoons, but if I do get round to it tomorrow I’ll definitely include yours.
