I ran out of melatonin last night — I thought I had another bottle, and I didn’t. This is unfortunate, because you can’t buy melatonin over the counter in the UK, or even get it prescribed, unlike in pretty much every other country in the world, even though it’s an entirely safe substance.
That means there are only two ways to obtain it. One is through Amazon, but unfortunately all the melatonin tablets they have for sale are full of added sweeteners. Hilariously, the sweetener they use is xylitol, which has a laxative effect on about 1/4 of people (including me), as all sugar alcohols do (xylitol, sorbitol, maltitol, etc). Remember those sugar-free gummi bear reviews? Not what you want in a sleeping aid.
So I’ve had to use the only other method of obtaining melatonin legally in the UK — buying from biovea.net, a company that ships from Luxembourg. I’ll be out of melatonin — and therefore sleeping badly if at all — for the best part of a week.
