I said a while ago, and I intend to stick to this, that I don’t intend to ever write another music book after the third Beach Boys one.
I’ve also, though, been *desperate* to write a book on Harry Nilsson since the box set of his stuff was announced, and yesterday Larry said in comments here that he wished I’d do the George Harrison book I’ve talked about.
So how about this?
When I’ve done Beach Boys book two, I’ll do a mini-Kickstarter for a Nilsson book. I’ll call it a Quickstarter, because I’m not looking to get funded for the time it will take or anything like that. What I want is to get at least twenty people to pledge at least a tenner — which will be the cost of pre-ordering a paperback copy (or maybe a signed paperback). If there are twenty people out there who like my music writing enough to pay in advance for it, which I doubt, then I’ll do the Nilsson book. Same way I do all my other music books — posting here first, then revising and publishing.
If that works, then after Beach Boys book three, I’ll do the same for David Bowie and George Harrison, the other two artists I think I could say something interesting about. If it doesn’t, then I won’t. Again, Kickstarters with only a two hundred quid target.
What do people think of this?
(Posts on The Beach Boys Live At Knebworth and the Remembrance Of The Daleks novelisation will come tonight).
