I think when you say Miles writes “entertainingly” what you actually mean is “bitterly, with an edge of misogyny”
I managed to read past the photoshopped Radio Times cover which I found incredibly offensive, but when I got to the bit in the right hand sidebar where his objectification of Amy is most extant, I just closed the post down in disgust.
I think Lawrence Miles, like theferrett on LJ is going to be added to The Daily Mail list of sites that I won’t go to because the fury they induce far outweighs any possible benefit of going.
To be honest I hadn’t visited the site itself, just seen it in my RSS reader (I never visit the site itself, as he doesn’t have any comments or anything), so I haven’t seen the stuff in the sidebar. If it’s anything upsetting I do apologise.
And yes, the Radio Times cover is rather unpleasant. I don’t see any misogyny in the article itself though.

That Dave Ex Machina post is spot on. I think the issue is that in recent years, geek/nerd culture has becomes amorphous and all-encompassing, and also far more mainstream than it used to be. And arguing from a position of powerlessness (as many nerd culture agitators do) when your subculture is in the ascendant is kind of obnoxious.
And I think that fanboyism and the nonstop mashups (zombie steampunk robot bacon you get the picture) are antithetical to what attracts me to SF and genre fiction: the sense of limitless imagination and the ability to create new worlds.
Couldn’t agree more with all of that.
