Nice post, Andrew. I left a typically long-winded comment over there you’ll be aghast to know! Couldn’t agree more re: Robert Holmes, *still* the best Who writer, indubitably.
P. S. Your joke concerning Daleks and Cybermen versus Autons and Silurians: don’t give Moffat ideas ;)
Did you see the AV Club’s recent review of Genesis? Disappointing, but then again Genesis is one of my all-time favorite Doctor Who episodes along with Terror Of The Autons.
Great article as usual. Must rewatch.
Andy, in a totally unrelated area………the Monkees’ “Auntie’s Municipal Court.” Does Harry Nilsson sing harmony on it? There’s a really sweet harmony in it, and I can’t imagine that it would be one of the Monkees. I know Nilsson was involved with the group a little bit around that time……is he on this song?
I’ve misplaced my copy of Sandoval (it’s around somewhere, but can’t find it) but in the notes I made for my own book I have the personnel noted as Dolenz, Nesmith, Bill Chadwick, Harry Nilsson and Eddie Hoh (there may be other people on there too). Since there’s no audible keyboard part, I assume Nilsson’s on backing vocals with Nesmith and Dolenz.
That would explain the sweeter harmony in the song, then. It sounds almost like David Crosby (when he was singing high harmonies with the Byrds). It must be Nilsson then. Thanks. He was *such* a great singer…..
