Thanks. Still weighing up the options. I have the gmail account linked to so many things … I actually have accounts linked to various domains I own (thenationalpep.co.uk and .org.uk , andrewhickey.info, hotliberalaction.co.uk ), all of which just currently forward to Gmail. The problem is trying to figure out which addresses I’m using for which things (Paypal, eMusic, credit cards, online banking, Amazon etc) and spending the time unlinking the gmail one where possible. I’ll do it at some point, but it’s a matter of taking the time to make the effort…
I’ve never been entirely keen on using Gmail anyway, for all the obvious reasons, but the quality and ease-of-use outweighed the downsides for a long time. But they’re piling on more downside all the time…

I’m glad I don’t have a gmail, and kept the old compuserve email I had (which eventually ended up as an AOL one). I don’t even visit AOL’s site these days. I still try to keep things separate- facebook for people I know in the real world, LJ for feeds, and people who write things I want to read, whether I know them or not.

At the bottom of the Gmail page there’s a link, in very tiny writing, that says ‘turn off Buzz’. I clicked it. Hard.
