This might change, depending on reaction, and how it looks in the finished PDF/print copies, but I thought something like this…
(Part of the problem I’m having with this is getting all the good material into few enough pages while leaving it readable and well-designed. At the moment it’ll require charging $16 for the paper copy, which would be slightly too much…)

Looks cool. When you say $16, do you mean 16 American dollars? I would have thought you’d be pricing it in pounds or euros or whatever. And how many pages is it?
Also, not to hijack, but if you’re interested I did one of those “pop-drama reinventions” things on my blog:

Yeah, I’d already seen that and commented on it – good stuff.
And it’ll be in US dollars because it’s POD using a USian company. But there’ll be a free PDF too.
It comes to 67 pages of .rtf document, but that’s without any images or fancy layouts.
Wow, you’re right! Ye cats, people reading my blog without me bugging them about it? Unheard of!
If you don’t mind my asking, Andrew, what POD company are you using? I have a feeling there are better deals out there, especially for a black-and-white magazine.
For instance, you might get in touch with onebookshelf.com, which is actually an online PDF/CBR publisher but is apparently going to be offering POD within the next few months, and based on what they’ve told me it’s going to be pretty reasonably priced. Right now their main deal is allowing people to sell PDF and CBR/CBZ files for low rates (as low as 50 cents Amercan). Anyway, I’ve had some pretty good luck with them, it’s entirely possible it won’t be to your liking, but it might be worth checking out.

There’s also ka-blam.com…pretty well-known, so I apologize if you’ve already rejected them for some reason, but they offer very decent rates compared to what you’re talking about here…
We’ll be using Magcloud. It’s not B&W – mostly it is, but there are some colour panels from comics and stuff in there, and obviously there are the tones on the cover. But I’m not expecting to make any real money from it. We’ll be offering the pdf as a free download, and selling the paper one essentially for cost – more just as a nice to have thing rather than a thing we expect to sell many of…
I really adore this cover and am very much looking forward to finally getting my hands on a copy of Pep!
Love it!
Cover’s great, Andrew.
