Andrew, just to say -- thanks for the kind words and thoughts. It's been a tough week, and the support of my fellow bloggers has been very much appreciated!

That sounds kind've hollow and empty, but that's just because I'm too wiped out to express myself properly right now.

I'll look into the situation with the possible virus on my blog over the weekend, if I get the chance.

Thank once more.

Take care.

That was the US release of Revolver. All of the Lennon songs save "She Said" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" were left off, which had to have been fascinating for the American market - a real sense that Something Was Up With John (and not for the last time).

Oh yeah, FAAB (which I'm sure was chosen at least in part for the acronym) is interesting on that level (though the middle eight just *asks* for negative criticism), but it's just a not-very-good track. Not bad - there's a base level of competence there which you'd expect from those involved - but not good either.

Always thought they should have got Roy Wood rather than Jeff Lynne to produce...

And the comment form's doing that for me too. I think this new style doesn't like threading much.

Amazingly, then he goes and does it one better in "Real Love"! I always think "Free As A Bird" is best appreciated as a metatextual marvel of a post-Beatles song...those verses are John in the Seventies, that middle eight's all Paul now, etc...

Hmm, your comment form's doing something funny, Andrew...do I need HD?

Ooh, I want to defend Jeff Lynne but I'm not so sure I can in this instance. I do actually really *really* like Free As A Bird as a song, but yeah, I'd have thought he'd want to lay off the trademark production style just a bit to let the Beatle-y-ness breathe. The worst thing that can be said of it, I think, is that he really mechanizes Ringo with the sound and that insistence on the 2-4 snare beat.

It does have one of my all-time favorite George solos in it, though. Very simple, but the sound on the held notes is fantastic.
