I liked Gotham City Sirens. The art was cheesecakey, but the anatomy wasn't bad (as far as I could tell) and I actually thought the writing was decent. You admit you were looking to hate it before you picked it up, so there's no surprise you hate it. It's like how all my friends who look at internet reviews hate Identity Crisis but my friends who don't think it's great. If you expect to hate something, yeah, you will.

I thought the script had a lot of clever bits in it and I'm very interested to see where the story goes. And I did like the art. It is sexy, yes, and I hated March's Oracle covers. But I think that this is a good story for sexy art because these women are sexy. Oracle too, but not in such an obvious way. And I'll continue to pick this up.

I have to say that I didn't pick up on Gotham City Sirens being particularly sexist. I just felt it was lame.

Indeed, it is possibly the least "sexy" comic involving three female leads wearing tight clothing I have ever read. Partly that is down the Jar Jar Binks like annoyingness of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy is tough to do right (this certainly wasn't - she's so feckin' nice!) - but even Catwoman was dull. It all came across to me like some kind of dull slumber party. Indeed, in that respect it reminded me of Jill Thompson's At Deaths Door, which lead me to assume it was specifically aimed at teenage girls. Not being a teenage girl (at least, not any more), I didn't really feel qualified to comment on its quality, other than that it clearly wasn't for me.

As for all those arses, I think I missed them because I was too busy flipping through the pages.

Agree that Detective Comics was a totally different experience. Indeed, this came as a bit of a surprise to me - I assumed from the marketing that it was going to be little more than an exploitative cash in. Delighted to be wrong in this respect.

Not very familiar with Hollingsworth's work, but then I tend to read more DC than Marvel.
I wasn't *hugely* impressed with Rucka's writing, but it did the job, which was for me to give Williams something to draw.

"The colourist is Dave Stewart – the only current colourist (who doesn’t do anything else – I’m not here counting people like Jamie Grant who do other things as well) working in comics whose work I think actively improves the art... "

BZZZT, possible wrong-buzzer if Matt Hollingsworth is currently working (possibly on Daredevil iirc?)

I didn't like 'tec massively; I think it did a decent job of actually making, finally, a character of Kate Kane, Batwoman but - despite having read almost the entirety of it, including the first appearance of Whisper a'Daire in Rucka's prior run on the book - I am almost entirely nonplussed by the by now interminable Crime Religion arc.

Lovely art, yes, of course.
