No apology necessary, but for the record I’m the bloke in black and white in the logo at the top of the page.
*I* on the other hand apologise for your replies being spamtrapped – don’t know whether it’s the subject matter or the links. I’ve approved both now. If you ever comment here again and it doesn’t show up, email andrew AT thenationalpep.co.uk and I’ll ensure it’s not trapped again.
I’m pretty sure I signed up to the CAAN statement already, but I’ll double-check when I’m not at work. I should probably link your site from my sidebar as well, as despite my frivolity it is a subject I’m genuinely concerned about.

Why can’t bearded men promote sexual liberty? Those with or without social skills?

aaah….i did ponder over it quite a while (you obviously don’t write like a fat hairy beardy man) :-) …..i hear you missed a treat with the workshop anyway (i was down at the Cambridge event).

Come and sign up to the CAAN statement anyway….we welcome all genders, sexualities and facial hair arrangements.

Andrea, either you misread or I wasn’t very clear (probably both). I was saying the opposite of what I think you think I was saying – *I* am a bearded man with no social skills, *therefore* not the kind of person who is best placed to promote your cause, which I am *entirely* in favour of. (If nothing else, I’m a comic fan who owns a copy of Lost Girls, and so in great danger of being considered a criminal under recent legal changes…

I’m still puzzling why you link bearded men with no social skills (in particular) to the campaign for sexual freedom?

did you see the two (non-bearded)WOMEN from CAAN doing the workshop? :-)

Check out the website…or even better look up the facebook group where you can peruse an amazing lack of bearded members (though i can’t vouch for all their social skills).

You are right..many people run away screaming from any campaign involving the word ’sex’…which is why the government feels it can break new legal ground in this area and attack civil liberties in a way it knows it couldn’t get away with in any other area…. that breach of civil liberties is then extended wider and wider to affect us all.

The govenment is legislating based on distaste not evidence…that has to be stopped.

Patrick, you’re right – but I think Mr Umumna was there talking about what he thought Labour could be persuaded to do, rather than what he would support himself. Which in itself shows the vast gulf between the few half-decent Labourites left (and it still *amazes* me that anyone would join that party if they had principles) and the party’s own policy…

Andrew, good to read your report from Manchester. I’ve been writing about the Glasgow event on my own blog.
I note what you said about Chuka Umunna – my observation was, “Interesting that the best the Labour party could come up with at the London plenary session was: “a pledge to prevent people from disturbing you with annoying calls and junk marketing calls and making that a polar issue”. Chuka Umunna (a parliamentary candidate in a London constituency) is a compelling speaker and I hope he’ll travel far in his political career, but rather missing the fundamental point here.”
