I like Sean’s idea, yeah – “Oo-oh, Yoshimi”; probably one note too many, that, but mmm, the pulsing American heart-iness. Yep.

Bonus work, Andrew, taking the question entirely seriously – “American trilogy/in a Lancashire pottery/is so fucking funny” sang the Manic Street Preachers, after they’d become terrible, but I thought you’d maybe appreciate the geography.

One could say “well he would say Sinatra liked it, he wrote it”. And “came to hate the song” doesn’t mean he didn’t like it first time round. IIRC Radiohead don’t really like playing “Creep”, but the fans expect it, and they can’t get away without playing it.

“Waterloo Sunset” is a great song but I bet Andrew will say it’s too British for Superman.

“Be-Bop-A-Lula” is inarguable in my mind, though. Excellent suggestion. So is “Pennsylvania 6-5000″… and knowing as I do Andrew’s childhood weakness for Glenn Miller, that one might stand more of a chance.

But Superman does look a bit like Elvis, so there’s that too.

According to the guy who wrote it Frank Sinatra actually really liked “My Way”- he was talking about it at the end of this weeks (31st Jan) “Saturday Live”.

And there was me thinking Superman was a Wee Jimmie Osmond fan…
