You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if Grant’s message was that there’s a flaw in Anti-Life itself…Darkseid thinks it’s a road to total control, and indeed it is…from this perspective….

Hmm. Must think on it a bit more. I mean superhero fiction is designed to be full of, uh, “indissoluble antinomies”…so to do away with that motif in superheroic fiction sort of would be a “Final Crisis”…

But now I have to sleep.

Superman Beyond 3D is the really big story to Final Crisis‘ merely gargantuan one, a reminder of the even bigger picture in much the same way as Mister Miracle was for Seven Soldiers. And this of course suggests that there are more layers yet – an infinite number of ever grander stories, with ever greater stakes, playing out all at the same time, with pawns in one story moving up the ranks and ending up in the story on the next level.

I said something similar over on the Mindless Ones; pleased to see it’s not just me who read it as that!

I think it works more as a counterpoint to ‘Last Rites’ in Batman, really, with Superman exploring the externalities, shells of… concept, of reality whilst Batman is left to delve inward into neuroses (ftw, of course. always ftw.)

I thought – hard science aside – that a combinatory process would be fusion anyway? It’s really an absolute repudiation of Aristotelian/Randian/Ditkovian thought though, isn’t it? I had no recollection that Atom was a Ditko work, actually, but it’s certainly anti-Mister A. The Amit Goswami of comics – I’m undertaking a piece on it myself, but it’s a mammoth, or feels like it anyway, should be – WILL BE – up tomorrow.
