It’s unfortunate though because he’s almost as good a writer as Alan Moore, almost as inventive an artist as JH Williams, a better letterer than even Todd Klein and the creator of probably the most cohesive artistic work ever in the medium. And at his best Sim-the-artist argues against everything SIm-the-polemicist says.

I actually read that quote from Rick ‘Talon The Merciless’ Sharer, a particularly repellent troll, but it doesn’t surprise me that other people have said the same thing. There’s a kind of groupthink among SIm’s more ardent fans that really worries me – I occasionally sign up to the Cerebus list on Yahoo for a while because some of them are actually bright and interesting, but then as soon as SIm does anything particularly cringeworthy they all close ranks and attack anyone who dares say that he might not be the greatest human being who ever lived…

But! I just wanted to point out the Sim fan who described Gail Simone in those vile terms was actually – it’s somewhere at comicsvillage, iiirc – Phil Hall, a one-time power-player in ancillary UK comics publishing, used to write a column (I enjoyed age 14) for Comics World and maybe Comics International. He’s, apparently, a completely repugnant turd now! Fuck him!
